'All new 'selling and rental agents' entering the estate agency profession after: 15 July 2008 are required:
1. to serve a compulsory minimum 12 month Internship,
[while in the service of a Principal Estate Agent and will work under the active supervision and control
of a full status Estate Agent-having a minimum of three  years Real Estate experience]
A mentorship – protégé relationship will be created. Intern estate agents have to keep an 'intern logbook'
to serve as evidence of their progress throughout the intern year, which will be monitored by the EAAB'
2. complete the FETC Real Estate NQF level 4 Qualification
3. write and pass the Professional Designation Examination [PDE]
[an 'open book' examination based on the Qualification}
Managing Agents; Property Auctioneers; Property Valuers; Property Brokers, Conveyancing attorneys and Developers: who were exempt under the old regulations, now fall under the definition 'estate agent' and must therefore comply with the new regulations relating to the Real Estate Education Standards'
